Baptism of Thomas Henniker 1837 [PDF file]
Thomas was born to Edward and Ann Henecar (Henniker) in 1799. He was baptised on March 10 1799 in Westwell, Kent. [Baptized 1799 – from a photocopy from the KFHS (P390/1/12 Westwell) ] see copy below.
Note the spelling is now shown as Henniker (not Henecar as was recorded on Edward and Ann’s marriage entry). This also answers why Thomas and Jemima Henniker’s surname is spelt as Henniker on the shipping manifest when they emigrated to South Australia, and why Thomas’ surname remained as Henniker whilst in South Australia. Why the name then became Heneker in future generations is unknown, except that it is probably the same reason the name was also spelt as Henecar on Thomas’ father’s marriage records, that the people in question were unable to read or write and may have been unaware of the correct spelling of their surname.
